Old abandoned mines of the Walhalla area

.

This is the first of a few old gold mines from the Walhalla area that I wanted to find and photograph for my website. Around the Walhalla area there is possibly hundreds of old gold mines lost in the bush, and most have been there for over 100 years and as you will see in the pictures below are not always easy to find. The reason I put this gold mine up first is because it was
run a bit different to most mines in the fact that the mine was located almost 1km from the machinery used to crush what was removed from the mine and was transported there by large steel buckets along a flying fox from the mine to the processing site about 1km away and 200 metres below. Because the mine was so high up on the hill they must have decided to set up there steam powered crushing plant closer to the river for easy supply of the water they needed. This mine is located about 13 km north of Walhalla, the machinery is on the Aberfeldy River and the mine located on the hill above
